A New World Order for the Common Good

In the past weeks we have participated as observers in the 19th Session of the Human Rights Council. As our contribution to this gathering, we have prepared a flyer on a new world order oriented towards the common good, based on the book “The Externalisation of the Hierarchy”. It was laid out on the desks assigned for NGOs during the meeting, and emailed to all our friends and co-workers worldwide.

The original text was written in 1945, just after the end of World War II, as the preparations for reconciliation and reconstruction were just starting. We have left out the passages relating exclusively to that period. This text concerns the work still remaining to be done to achieve a new world order based on right human relations.

Cooperation with the United Nations

A written statement by the IPS for the next session of the ECOSOC has been accepted for distribution to all delegates.

The statement was written by Sara Nora Ross, in cooperation with the dynamic group that is working together with Lisinka Ulatowska, the IPS representative at the UN in New York. Lisinka is the founder of the All-Win Network, and has extensive experience lobbying at the UN.

The theme of the statement is the Global Commons. It is now document E/2010/NGO/29, available in all official UN languages at the website of the United Nations. The best way to get a copy of the document is to google  E/2010/NGO/29, then click on the first result of the search ("AGCM Access"). The statement is availalbe both as a Word document and as a pdf.

For more information on the Global Commons and on Lisinka's work, please go to the following websites:

Here is the text of the statement in English. We invite all our friends and co-workers to support this initiative.

People and commons: global partnership missing links

The environment, the economy and social relationships are interrelated aspects of sustainable development and what are increasingly being referred to as commons.

Commons are shared resources that naturally belong to collectives and provide the natural and social capital upon which all life depends. Therefore, where people have the jurisdiction to do so, they tend to be highly motivated to sustain their commons, and these commoners have developed countless initiatives to achieve this. A rights-based approach to sustainable development — based upon environmental protection and restoration, economic prosperity and social justice to benefit all people and the planet as a whole — would recognize the value of various local, regional, national and global commons. This would motivate people and form the strongest possible foundation for a global partnership for development.

Governments need the support of the people to equitably and sustainably manage various commons and undo their unsustainable patterns of production and consumption at local through global scales. Where Governments support people to take greater responsibility for their vital resources, they will: (a) motivate citizens and businesses to support commitments to sustainability; (b) engage citizens and businesses in being proactive about sustainability; (c) educate citizens and businesses about their consumption patterns and costs to the environment; and (d) generate equitable funding that reinforces healthy patterns of production and consumption through improved protection of various commons.

The incorporation of people and their commons in actions that benefit all people and the planet as a whole is the strongest possible foundation for global partnerships for sustainable development. It integrates sustainable local, regional, national and international development because all parties and initiatives reinforce one another.

Here are a few structural changes inspired by a commons approach: (a) achieving the internalization of environmental costs; (b) establishing rules and guidelines for the use and management of common resources; (c) creating incentives for sustainable development; (d) setting rents or surcharges on the use of common resources; (e) developing economic instruments that increase as the sustainability of the commons increase, with benefits accruing to people of the given commons. Thousands of initiatives can be found on the many websites dedicated to local to global commons (including www.onthecommons.org) and in the work of Nobel Prize winner Elinor Oström.

Because they are dedicated to preserving the global commons for all people and the world as a whole, global commoners can integrate global partnerships for development.

We request Governments to create a panel of experts within the United Nations Secretariat to explore with experts on the commons ways to incorporate a commons approach into global strategies for sustainable development. The panel would report back to the preparatory committee for the Rio+20 conference to inform the preparations for that summit.

Yoga of Patanjali

Our small group that studies the yoga sutras of Patanjali met once again yesterday, 29 May - May Call Day, a day instituted by Master C.V.V. as a day in which the Master "may call".

The study group on the yoga sutras of Patanjali started about one year ago to meet about once a month for reading the book "Lessons on the Yoga of Patanjali", by Dr. E. Krishnamacharya. It was a proposal made by Sally Curry, the IPS President. The proposal of creating this group was welcomed by Dr. Anantakrishna, who is the eldest son of Dr. Krishnamacharya, in the following words: "The Yoga of Patanjali is the core book on the Science of Yoga. There exists several commentaries and explanations on this book, but the lectures given in 1981 by Master EK in Geneva are really a boon to all the seekers of the world who really want to enter a yogic life and not just remain confined to a so-called yoga practice which is far from real life. This book, "Lessons on the Yoga of Patanjali", which contains the text of these lectures,  is so important because here Master explains the subject without using any technical terms and with many examples from real life. He explained  the subject in a most appealing manner to the people from both Occident and Orient. I appreciate this effort of circulating these lessons to people at large all over the planet. May the Master bless us all in this global work."

Dr. Anantakrishna also authorised the IPS to to copy any part of this book to circulate for interested persons anywhere on the planet. We plan to make the various chapters of this book available as lessons to be mailed once a month upon request to persons interested in studying them.

As part of this study, we also practice the meditation and pranayama exercises taught by Dr. Krishnamacharya. After we finished the "Lessons on the Yoga of Patanjali", we started reading the book "Yoga of Patanjali" as presented by Dr. Krishnamacharya, supplementing it with the corresponding passages from the book "Light of the Soul", by Alice A. Bailey, which is also an explanation of the yoga sutras of Patanjali. Yesterday, we finished the chapter on Book III of the yoga sutras of Patanjali.

Lecture by Dr. Jane Goodall

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research held this year on 26 May the fourth edition of the Geneva Lecture Series. The Geneva Lecture Series brings awareness of pressing global challenges to the concerned public and civil society in Geneva and beyond, with a focus on how each individual can contribute to resolve such challenges. It also offers an intellectual anchor for the work of the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva and a mechanism to channel current thinking and research into policy-making.

The guest speaker this year was Dr. Jane Goodall, United Nations Messenger of Peace and Founder of the Jane Goodall Institute. The title of her talk was: "Nature's wake-up call: why we must heed the warning".

Dr. Jane, as she prefers to be called, started studying chimpanzees about 50 years ago, but in 1986 realised that the scientific study of these amazing primates needed to go hand in hand with nature conservation and with sustainable development of local communities. For that purpose, she founded the Jane Goodall Institute, which has programmes dedicated to promote cooperation between wild life conservationists and local communities (takecare program), as well as programs dedicated to raising environmental and humanitarian awareness in children and youth.

A webcast of her lecture can be watched on the website of UNITAR dedicated to the Geneva Lecture Series: http://www.unitar.org/gls/.

It was interesting to note the name of the youth programs: "Roots & Shoots". As Dr. Jane said during her lecture, if you look at a seed that is starting to germinate, it looks so small and fragile, with thin roots and shoots, but these thin roots and shoots can move boulders to reach water, and grow through cracks in a wall until causing the wall to collapse. She considers these boulders and walls are the many obstacles that stand in the way of a better world society, and that seem so formidable and insurmountable for us today. It is the same image that Djwhal Khul uses to characterise the ten seed-groups.

Slide show on Ten Seed-Groups

In the evening of 26 May 2010, Rudolf Schneider made a presentation on the ten seed-groups during the regular informal gathering (Stammtisch) of the Swiss Association for Free Energy (SAFE) in Olten. He used for that purpose a slide show we have created at the IPS on the ten seed-groups. The seed-groups is the basic structure of the New Group of World Servers, as described by the Master Djwhal Khul.

Since SAFE works in the scientific field, he also presented a few ideas taken from Cosmic Fire, projecting slides of a few charts from the book, especially chart V, that shows how the entire known Universe, including its most spiritual and abstract aspects, is only what the esoteric science calls the cosmic physical plane.

This chart is called "The Evolution of a Solar System":
Evolution of a Solar System

Another chart he presented was taken from the book "Der Kosmos lebt - Das organische Weltbild", by Willi Reith (Verlag "Die Arve", 1962), showing how our solar system is entering at the time a position in the Universe in which it receives the energies from the Galactic centre directly - which is one of the reasons for the many changes we are experiencing today on planet Earth. This chart is in German:

Der grosse Jahreskreis

The Schweizerische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Freie Energie, SAFE (Swiss Association for Free Energy, http://www.safeswiss.org) is an association of like-minded people with the aim of researching and making free or space energy known.  It organizes conferences and open discussions to further contacts and exchanges of experiences.
